Five Things to Know: Badgers host Broncos
March 04, 2022 | Men's Tennis
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team is back at Nielsen after nearly a month on the road to host Western Michigan Saturday at noon.
1. Dominant Doubles: The Badgers have been playing their best doubles yet, claiming the last three doubles points in their matches against Penn, Oregon and Washington. Over that stretch, Jared Pratt and Daniel Nuzhny led the team going undefeated with 6-1 (Oregon), 6-2 (Penn) and 6-4 (Washington) wins at the No. 3 doubles position. Lenard Soha and Tim Dzhurinskiy went 2-1 over the past three matches, winning in Oregon and Pennsylvania, while Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts went 1-0 to clinch the point at Washington, with two other unfinished matches.
2. Beating the Ranks: The Badgers took down the No. 42-ranked Oregon Ducks last weekend, adding to their repertoire of ranked wins this season. During the same match, Vile defeated No. 142-ranked singles player Jesper Klov-Nilsson in two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Over the season, Soha has grabbed a pair of swift two-set ranked singles wins, one over No. 68 Karl Poling of Princeton and No. 56 Tad Maclean of Auburn. Also against Auburun, Vile and Parts scored an impressive win over the No. 28-ranked doubles team in the country, Auburn's duo of Jan Galka and Tyler Stice.
3. Know the Opponent: Western Michigan is 4-5 on the season and yet to win a match on the road as they travel to Madison this weekend. The Broncos have three 6-1 wins - Butler, Ferris State University and Michigan State – and most recently a close 4-3 victory over Wichita State. The Badgers and Broncos have a common foe in Drake University which the Broncos lost a close 3-4 match to a couple weeks after the Badgers beat them in dramatic 4-3 fashion.
