Badgers win heavyweight four to highlight IRA tune-up
PHILADELPHIA – Wisconsin's women's lightweight rowers wrapped up the two-day Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Saturday, claiming the women's heavyweight four and claiming second in the women's junior varsity four and novice/freshman four events.
UW's entry in the heavyweight four won its Friday heat by just over six seconds, then its Friday semifinal by just under six seconds to advance to Saturday's grand final. The Badgers stayed perfect and won the grand final by nearly 2.5 seconds.
UW's second place boats in the junior varsity four and the novice/freshman four finished within five seconds of Lafayette in both events.

"This was an amazing weekend of racing for our team. A lot of our athletes doubled up and raced in two events. All of our crews challenged themselves to race with more intensity throughout the regatta which I think we executed very well. That was highlighted by our varsity four which won the openweight varsity four event. That is no easy feat. I am extremely proud of the direction we are headed and we are hungry for the IRA national championships coming up in a few weeks."
