MINNEAPOLIS – Behind 12 event wins, the 12th-ranked Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team defeated the 24th-ranked Minnesota, 181-119, at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Friday.
Freshman Dominance
Freshman
Maddie Waggoner won the 1000 free in 9:54.53, marking her third consecutive win in the event this season. The Badgers swept the top-three places in the distance event as
Blair Stoneburg finished second in 9:55.93 and Aliva Lindorfer took third in 9:58.55.
Stoneburg won the 500 freestyle in 4:49.67 while
Paige McKenna took second in 4:53.16.
Lily Gardner scored a fourth-place finish in 4:56.49.
Continuing the momentum for the freshman was
Hailey Tierney, who won the 50 free in 22.66, making it her third consecutive win of the season.
Top Finishers
Junior
Abby Carlson won two events against the Gophers, hitting the wall first in both the 100 free (49.91) and 200 free (1:46.88), with
Phoebe Bacon placing second in the 200 free in 1:48.41. Bacon also won the 200 back with a season-best time of 1:56.51.
Junior
Mackenzie McConagha picked up wins in the 100 back (53.35) and the 100 fly (53.94).
Kaylyn Schoof placed third in the 100 back in 55.78 while Tierney finished second in the fly in 54.86. Lindorfer also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 fly in 2:01.47.
Sophomore
Hazal Ozkan also won the 200 breast (2:14.62) and the 100 breast (1:02.53).
Callahan Dunn touched third in the 100 breast in 1:05.15 and third in the 200 race in 2:17.55. Dunn was also the top UW finisher in the 200 individual medley, taking second in 2:02.70 while Ozkan was third in 2:03.15.
Relay sweep
Wisconsin won both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
UW started out the day winning the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Bacon, Ozkan, Tierney, and McConagha touching in 1:39.13. The Badgers wrapped up the night with a win in the 400 free relay with Stoneburg, Carlson, Tierney, and Bacon finishing in 3:19.82.

The Badgers return to action on Nov. 15-18 as the swimmers head to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Invitational while the divers travel to Athens, Georgia, for the Georgia Invitational.
