Badgers storm past Arkansas State in season opener

UW sets Kohl Center single-game scoring record

MADISON, Wis. — A balanced offensive attack led the Wisconsin men's basketball team to a season opening 105-76 win over Arkansas State at the Kohl Center on Monday night.

The Badgers (1-0) shared the love on offense to fuel a record night, scoring a Kohl Center single-game record 105 points in the victory. 

UW had four players score in double figures, led by Chucky Hepburn with 20 points who shot 7-for-10 from the floor. The junior point guard also tallied six assists and three steals.

Transfer guard AJ Storr scored 15 points, Max Klesmit put in 14 points, and reserve John Blackwell tallied 12 points for Wisconsin, which had a total of 12 players enter the scoring column. The Badgers made 39 of 60 shot attempts (65%), including 6 of 12 from 3-point range.

Wisconsin scored 56 points before halftime, its most since putting up 69 in the opening frame against Savannah State on Dec. 13, 2018. Last season, the Badgers' first-half high was 43 points.

True freshman Nolan Winter posted six points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.

Senior Tyler Wahl finished with eight points (4-for-5 FG), while Steven Crowl added nine points, four assists and three rebounds. 

Wisconsin shot 65.0 percent on the night and held Arkansas State (0-1) to 40.7 percent shooting.

UW forced the Red Wolves into 17 turnovers.

Wisconsin returns to action on Friday night hosting No. 9 Tennessee. Tip is set for 8 p.m. CT at the Kohl Center. A limited number of tickets are available.
