MADISON, Wis. - Led by a balanced offensive effort, the Wisconsin women's basketball team beat Rutgers at the Kohl Center on Monday night, 88-62.Â
All five starters finished in double figures, as Serah Williams led Wisconsin in scoring with 21 points, secured eight rebounds and had three blocks. Julie Pospisilova added 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.Â
Avery LaBarbera and Maty Wilke finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively, as each of them connected on four baskets from behind-the-arc. Brooke Schramek rounded out double figure scoring, as she finished with 11 points and four assists.Â
The Badgers (9-19, 4-12 Big Ten) started out hot in the first quarter, going 5-for-8 from behind-the-arc and shooting 56.3% from the field, and got out to a 24-15 lead. Rutgers answered in the second quarter with a 13-3 run to keep it within striking distance. Wisconsin led 46-35 heading into halftime.
Rutgers got it within seven points, 44-51, with 7:07 remaining in the third quarter. The Badgers followed that with an 18-2 run to finish the quarter, and took a 69-46 lead and Rutgers was unable to recover.
The Badgers finished the night shooting 56.4% from the field and went 11-for-21 from behind the arc. Additionally, the team earned a new season-high with eight blocks, as three of them came from Serah Williams.Â
The Scarlet Knights (11-17, 5-11 Big Ten) were led by Kaylene Smikle, as she scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.Â
Up next, the Badgers will travel to Evanston to play Northwestern on Thursday night. Tip is set for 6 p.m.Â
