Badgers and Raiders to battle for trip to Frozen Four

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The No. 6 Wisconsin women's hockey team has advanced to the regional final of the 2023 NCAA Women's Hockey Championship, where they will face third-ranked Colgate for a chance to head to the 2023 Women's Frozen Four in Duluth, Minnesota. 

Puck drop at the Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, New York, is set for 2 p.m. CT. The game will be available through ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the game on 100.9 FM as Reid Magnum will be on the call. Fans can order tickets through Colgate by phone (315-228-4062) or by stopping into the Reid Athletic Center ticket office between 9-4 p.m. EST. Remaining tickets will be available on gameday starting one hour prior to puck drop. 

1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers are coming off of a 9-1 win against LIU in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night as UW's nine goals were an NCAA record for a NCAA championship game. Eight different Badgers found the back of the net in the third-ever meeting between the two schools, including Jesse Compher who had two goals for the Cardinal and White. 


2. AGAINST COLGATE: Wisconsin and Colgate have met just once in program history, with the Raiders claiming the win. The two last faced each other on March 17, 2018 in an NCAA semifinal game at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. The Badgers came up short, falling 4-3 in double-overtime to the Raiders. Colgate then went on to drop the national championship game 2-1 in overtime to Clarkson. 

3. THE TOURNAMENT FIELD: This marks the second year that the NCAA tournament has 11 teams as Badgers are one of four WCHA teams that advanced to the round of eight at the Big Dance. Top seed Ohio State will face Quinnipiac on Saturday after the Bobcats knocked out Penn State in triple-overtime. Second-ranked Minnesota will face state rival Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, while Yale hosts Northeastern in a quarterfinal game on Saturday. 

4. NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: Following a win against the Sharks on Thursday, the Badgers now hold a 17-1-0 record for games played in New York. Additionally, the Badgers moved to 3-0-0 in postseason games in New York as Wisconsin won the 2007 NCAA Women's Frozen Four in Lake Placid, New York. 

5. UP NEXT: The winners of the regional finals will head to Duluth, Minn. for the 2023 Women's Frozen Four at AMSOIL Arena. Semifinals begin Friday, March 17, while the national championship is set for Sunday, March 19. The first semifinal game will air on ESPN+ at 2:30 p.m. CT with the second also being broadcast on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. CT. The national championship will air at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 19, on ESPNU.
