Wisconsin defeats DePaul in five innings after scoring eleven early runs

The Badgers win their fifth-straight game

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team extends their win streak with an 11-1 victory against the University of DePaul Blue Demons in five innings for the first game of their next eight at Goodman Diamond.

Tessa Magnanimo (5-1) brought her success from the weekend back to Goodman, striking out three batters in the first inning and taking control of the Badger's (21-10,7-2) defense.

Wisconsin's offense stayed just as hot, with Katie Keller starting the bottom frame with a single to center field. Following a Kayla Konwent fielder's choice where both runners were called safe, Ellie Hubbard ripped a double to give the Badgers the 1-0 lead, scoring Keller. Christaana Angelopulos continued the momentum with a single of her own, bringing in Kayla Konwent. Then Payton Bannon got the bench off their feet with a 3-RBI dinger for her first home run of the year.

Both Katie Keller and Kayla Konwent continued to do what they do best in the second inning, with a Keller double to lead off the inning and Konwent ripping her ninth home run of the spring season to give Wisconsin the 7-0 lead.

A slew of new Badgers came into play in the third, with Shelby Jacobson making her first career appearance on the mound for the Badgers. DePaul (12-21, 4-8) was able to get ahold of her for the visiting team's third hit and first run of the game with an RBI double to center field to put the Blue Demons behind by six.

However, the fourth inning gave Wisconsin the large lead back, starting with another hit by Ellie Hubbard. With a fielders choice and a DePaul error, Marytherese Nevin, pinch-running for Hubbard, scored the Badger's eighth run. Eden Dempsey had a day getting her first hit of the sesaon and RBI for the Badgers on a double to center field. Once again, Emily Bojan took advantage of the opportunity in front of her and inched a 2-RBI double just inside the right-field line to give Wisconsin its final two runs and an 11-1 lead.

Gabi Salo came in to close out the game and retired three straight to give Wisconsin the run-rule victory in just five innings for the team's fifth straight win.

Tessa Magnanimo was the winning pitcher after throwing five strikeouts in two innings and giving up only two total hits to secure her fifth win of the season.
