Badgers head to Galloway for conference showdown
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin men's golf is headed out east to Galloway, New Jersey to compete in the 2023 Big Ten Championship at the Galloway National Golf Club. The Badgers will play a total of 54 holes from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30.Â
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1. Last Time Out: The Badgers last competed at the Boilermaker Invitational, where they finished eight-under par at the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course, totaling a 280-280-284=844. Graham Moody led the way for the Badgers, tying for fourth place overall with a seven-under (69-67-70=206). Moody set three career-low records for himself throughout the invitational, with an 18-hole low of 67, a 36-hole low of 136 and a 54-hole low of 206.
2. The Course: The Big Ten Championship will take place at the Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The 7,111-yard course, designed by architect Tom Fazio, will be played as a Par 71. Opened in 1995, the club overlooks the New Jersey shoreline and is known for its dramatic contour changes, ideal soil and lush pine forest. Galloway National Golf Club has hosted numerous championships for the New Jersey State Golf Association, Golf Association of Philadelphia, NCAA and USGA, proving its title as a championship golf course.Â
3. The Tournament: The Championship is set to be played from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30 with 18 holes being played on each day. Golfers will tee off of holes #1 and #10 at 8:00 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday, and 7:00 a.m. CT on Sunday.Â
4. The Field: Teams competing in the tournament are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State, Rutgers and Wisconsin. Maxime Legros, Cameron Huss, Coalter Smith, Clayton Tribus, Graham Moody and Max Schwarz each traveled to New Jersey for the Badgers. Five players will represent Wisconsin each day, with the top four scores of each round counting towards the team score. Teams are allowed to sub in a player after each round, with the player's score only counting towards the team score and not the individual.Â
