
Five events to watch: Badgers host Wisconsin Alumni Classic

Badgers celebrate Senior Day
MADISON, Wis. – The No. 14 Wisconsin men's track and field team hosts the Wisconsin Alumni Classic on Friday at the McClimon Track/Soccer Complex. We will be honoring our senior athletes for their Senior Day. Field events begin at 1 p.m. and running events at 3:30 p.m.
1. SENIOR DAY: The Badgers will be honoring their senior athletes on Friday. Badgers Sam Coil, Robby Hatch, Lawrence Johnson, Colin Enz, Jack Meijer, and Derick Peters will have their senior recognition ceremony at 5:50 p.m. honoring their accomplishments as a student, athlete, and as a person. UW has more seniors on their rosters but several were honored in 2022 while others are returning for another year of eligibility.
2. POWER THROWS: Competing in this week's hammer throw are Sam Coil and Cole Hooper. Coil threw a personal best this season of 219 feet, 10 inches, ranking him second all-time at UW, fourth in the Big Ten this season and 28th in the nation. Jason Swarens is set to compete in the shot put. Last weekend, Swarens threw a personal best of 67-0 ½ , setting a school record and now leading the Big Ten and ranking third in the nation. Andrew Stone is set to compete in both the discus and shot put. Stone threw a personal best throw of 180-7 this season in the discus, ranking him 10th all-time at UW.
3. SPRINT IT OUT: Competing in the sprints and hurdles this week are Giovanni Wearing, Jalen Williams, and decathlon athletes Cade Amborn and Quinn Lansill. Wearing ran a best time this season of 13.95 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, landing him ninth in the Big Ten this season. Ahead of the Big Ten Championships, decathletes Lansill and Amborn will be running in the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Williams is set to compete in the 400 meters.
4. DOUBLE THE DISTANCE: Athletes competing in the middle distance events on Friday are Jake Bourjet, Liam Belson, Micah Wilson, Sam Craig, and Joshua Truchon. Wilson finished 10th at the Penn Relays in the 5,000-meter race, running a personal best of 13:56.88, ranking him 10th in the Big Ten this season. Truchon ran a personal best at the Penn Relays last weekend in the 5,000 meters, running a time of 14:11.27.
5. JUMPIN' JUMPS: Competing in the men's long jump is Justin Kiefel. Kiefel jumped a personal best this season of 23-8 ¾, ranking him in the top 20 in the Big Ten this season.
