DEKALB, Ill. – The No. 25 Wisconsin women's tennis team began 2024 duals at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 20.

In the first match of the day, the Badgers secured the first win of the season over James Madison, 6-1. UW then played a second dual against Northern Illinois, clinching the second win of the day, 7-0.

Dual 1 - James Madison

The first match began early in the morning, with Xinyu Cai and Alina Mukhortova upsetting No. 26 Cate Broerman and Hope Moulin at No. 1 doubles. Ariel Johnson and Kája Jacobson secured the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-2 win.

Sholokhova wasted no time sweeping her opponent 6-0 in both sets to give the team its first singles win. The win was guaranteed when freshman Ellison Reynoldson won both of her sets.

Dual 2 – Northern Illinois

Doubles took almost no time as Garcia Gross and Jacobson shutout their opponents, 6-0, in the third spot. No. 2 doubles secured the point, only allowing the Huskies to capitalize on one game.

Sholokhova used her time on the court wisely, only contesting one match on the day. Taylor Cataldi secured the fourth point – and the Badger win – taking down her opponent 6-2, 6-0.
