MADISON, Wis. – Thanks several stellar performances in field events, the Wisconsin women's track and field team enjoyed a successful first day at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Trio of Pentathletes
The day was highlighted by the trio of Shaina Zinter, Kyla Saleh, and Maddie Hogan, who competed alongside each other in their second pentathlon of the season. Zinter won the pentathlon with 3,956 points, a new personal best for the sophomore, her score places her seventh on UW's all-time list and second in the Big Ten. In their first full pentathlon, Saleh and Hogan finished third and fourth, respectively. Saleh finished with 3,428 points, and Hogan with 3,377 points.
Zinter led the group in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the event in 8.57 seconds. Hogan and Saleh both ran personal best times in the event, finishing third and fourth, respectively. Hogan finished in 8.97, while Saleh followed in 9.10. Saleh bounced back and led the group, winning the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 7 ¾ inches (1.72m). Zinter followed with a second-place showing, clearing a distance of 5-5 ¼ (1.66m), with Hogan coming in fourth at 5-1 ¾ (1.57m).
The group then headed into the third event of the day, Zinter earned herself a second-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 35-1 (10.69m). Saleh came in fourth at 32-7 ½ (9.94m), and Hogan with a toss of 31-7 ½ (9.64m). In the final field event of the pentathlon, it was Zinter once again leading the group, she finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17-2 ¾ (5.25m). Hogan earned herself a sixth-place finish with a personal best jump of 16-2 ¼ (4.93m), and Saleh finished eighth with a distance of 15-10 ½ ( 4.84).
In the final pentathlon event, Zinter took home the victory in the 800-meters crossing with a personal best time of 2 minutes and 11.37 seconds. Hogan finished in 2:28.35 for a fifth-place finish, while Saleh finished sixth, crossing in 2:36.10.
Day one standouts
Once again, it was Chloe Lindeman leading the Badgers in the weight throw the Fulton, Illinois native finished second in the event with a distance of 71-8 (21.84m). It was then back-to-back finishes from Olivia Robers and Abby Peeler, who finished third and fourth, respectively, Roberts covered 69-6 ¼ (21.19m) while Peeler finished with a season-best throw of 67-3 ¼ (20.50m). Asia Rave earned herself a seventh-place finish with a personal best distance of 64-3 ¾ (19.60m), and Chikere Oduocha came in eighth, throwing for 63-10 ¼ (19.46m). Danni Langseth rounded out the top 10 with a ninth-place finish at 63-0 ¾ (19.22m).
Kiley Robbins earned herself a place in the finals of the 60-meter dash after winning the preliminary race with a time of 7.84 seconds. She will compete tomorrow at 11:10 a.m.
Elissa Perkins was the lone Badger competing in the long jump, soaring 17-7 (5.36m) for an 10th place finish.
