MADISON, Wis. – The No. 25 Wisconsin Badgers men's soccer team (6-4-1, 1-4-1 Big Ten) will travel to Evanston, Illinois, on Tuesday to face the Northwestern Wildcats (7-5-0, 1-4-0 Big Ten).
Here are five things to know about the matchup.
1 – MOVING ON AND UP — The Badgers already tied their total number of wins they secured last season. A seventh win would be their best since 2021, where they had seven. Another Big Ten win would tie their total from last year. Wisconsin already tied their road win total from last year and another would be their best since the 2022 season.
2 – A YOUNG ENERGY — Out of Wisconsin's top six point scorers, three are freshman or sophomores. The team is led in points by
Dean Boltz, who has nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Second in points is sophomore
Trip Fleming who has five goals and three assists for 13 points. Also in the top six is freshman
Matthew Zachemski who has four points so far this season.
3 – BOLTZ STANDS B1G — Boltz continues to lead the Big Ten in goals and points. The second-place goal scorer has placed two more games than Boltz and still trails the freshman by a goal. Boltz 22 points are four points above the second-place holder who also has played one more game than the Badgers' striker.
4 – OCTOBER OPPORTUNITY — Including Northwestern, the Badgers have four games left in their regular season schedule. All four games are slated against Big Ten opponents and two of them are home games. The Badgers close out a two-game road trip on Tuesday in Illinois and return home to face Ohio State on Saturday.
5 – WHAT'S UP WILDCATS — The Badgers are 5-2-3 in their last 10 meetings against Northwestern. The team's last met in Madison last year where the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Badgers went on a four-game win streak against the Wildcats between 2015 and 2018. Northwestern enters the matchup with a current two-game win streak, defeating Rutgers, 2-1, and Trine, 4-0. The Wildcats currently sit last in the Big Ten standings with three points.
