MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin men's soccer team (1-1-0) welcomes the Western Michigan Broncos (0-2-0) to the McClimon Soccer Complex on Friday, Aug. 29. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT. The Badgers will also play on Monday, Sept. 1, against the Portland Pilots (2-0-0). Labor Day kickoff is at 7 p.m. CT.
Here are five things to know about the weekend's matches.
1 – OPENING WEEKEND – After suffering a 1-0 loss against North Florida to open the 2025 season, the Badgers bounced back on Sunday, defeating Bradley 4-1. The loss on Thursday was not for lack of opportunity, as Wisconsin had 11 shots (5 SOG) and 17 corner kicks in the game, but ultimately could not find the back of the net. The Badgers adjusted and cashed in on four of their six shots on goal against the Bradley Braves Sunday afternoon.
2 – IMMEDIATE IMPACTS – Badger transfers Bart Muns and Ola Arntsen made their presence known against the Braves on Sunday. Muns scored the first Wisconsin goal of the season and netted his second of the game to seal the Badger victory. Arntsen showed off his range with a dart from outside the box to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. Freshman Aidan Martinez also notched his first collegiate point with an assist on Arntsen's goal.
3 – SCOUTING THE BRONCOS – Wisconsin is 4-1-1 in the all-time series against Western Michigan. The teams last met in Kalamazoo three seasons ago, where the Broncos secured a 2-1 victory. Western Michigan went 12-3-6 last season, losing in the second round of the NCAA tournament to No. 1 seed Ohio State, 2-1. The Broncos also earned three wins over ranked teams last year, which helped place them third in the annual Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) preseason poll. The Badgers will look to score against a top defensive team, led by Preseason All-MVC Team honoree defender, Christian Shannon.
4 – LABOR DAY KICKS – UW trails 1-3-2 in the all-time series against Portland. The Badgers' win against the Pilots was a big one in 1995, when Wisconsin went 20-4-1 en route to the NCAA championship. That year, the Badgers knocked off the Pilots, 1-0, at the NCAA College Cup semifinals. In their last meeting six seasons ago, Portland secured the 1-0 victory over Wisconsin. The Pilots sported a 7-4-7 record last season, and outscored opponents 12-0 in their two games this season. Portland was picked to finish third in the 2025 West Coast Conference Coaches Preseason Poll, with two players selected to the All-WCC Preseason Team.
5 – HOW TO FOLLOW – Both games will take place at the Badgers' McClimon Soccer Complex, with admission free to all. The matches will stream on B1G+, and live stats can be found at uwbadgers.com. Live updates will also be given on @BadgerMSoccer on X, as well as @badgermsoccer on Instagram.
