Men’s soccer claws past Penn State, 2-0

Badgers pick up three clutch points on the road

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team (7-5-2, 2-5-2 Big Ten) defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions (5-8-2, 2-5-2) 2-0 in State College Saturday to take eighth in the Big Ten standings.

The Badgers opened the scoring in the eighth minute as Thomas Raimbault sent a cross into the box that went into the Penn State net untouched.

Wisconsin continued to push and doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. Matthew Zachemski sent a cross into the box and Ryan Quintos sent a powerful header into the back of the Nittany Lions' net.

The Badgers took their 2-0 lead into the half.

With a 2-0 lead, the Badgers set out into the second half defensively. Matisse Hebert stood up to the challenge and stopped all three shots he faced in the second half. Hebert totaled four saves in his sixth shutout of the season. The freshman goalkeeper is now 7-3-2 in net this season for Wisconsin.

With the victory, the Badgers are eighth in the Big Ten with eight points, holding the tiebreaker of Penn State, who also has eight points. They control their destiny with three more points to play for when they face the University of Michigan on Nov. 3.

Notes to know:
  • With their seventh win of the season, the Badgers eclipsed their total of six wins from last season. That's their most since their seven wins in 2021.
  • The Badgers are still in contention for the Big Ten tournament. A win against the University of Michigan would guarantee a spot.

Up Next: The Badgers close out their regular season against the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 3 back at the McClimon soccer complex. Admission is free.
