Smith records top-20 finish at Puerto Rico Classic

Wisconsin finishes in 13th after three rounds

RIO GRAND, P.R. – After three days of the Puerto Rico Classic, the Wisconsin men's golf team finished 12-under par to place 13th.

The team shot a 281-283-288=852 and was led by senior Coalter Smith, who finished tied for 16th at nine-under par. Georgia earned top honors among the 15-team field as they carded a 42-under par.

Tuesday, February 13

Round 3

The Badgers made par with a 288 in the final round to place 13th.

With a team-leading six birdies, Smith shot a three-under 69 to finish tied for 16th at nine-under par overall.

Spencer Turtz stayed consistent and made par, placing him at par at the end of the tournament and tied for 61st. Jacob Beckman shot a one-over 73, also placing him tied for 61st as he finished at par.

Cameron Huss carded a two-over 74 to finish tied for 53rd at two-under par, while Blake Wisdom shot a four-over 76 to tie for 81st at five-over par.

Monday, February 12

Round 2

Wisconsin carded a 283 (-5) in the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic, placing them in 12th.

Smith once again led the Badgers, shooting a three-under 69. He enjoyed four birdies in the round, putting him at a total of eight so far in the tournament.

Huss and Beckman each carded a one-under 71, with Huss grabbing an eagle on Hole 5 in addition to four birdies. Beckman currently leads Wisconsin golfers with 10 birdies.

Turtz made par and Wisdom shot a two-over 74.

Sunday, February 11

Round 1

The Badgers started off the tournament with a 281 (-7), placing them tied for ninth.

Huss and Smith led UW in the first round, each shooting a three-under 69 with four birdies a piece.

Wisdom also found himself under par with a one-under 71, while Beckman and Turtz each made par. Beckman tallied a team-leading five birdies in the opening round.
