Badgers ready to race Saturday on Lake Mendota
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing team will race against Stanford on Saturday April 20 on Lake Mendota.
Racing is expected to take place on the northwest side of Lake Mendota due to predicted winds. Teams will launch from Marshall Park, with recommended race viewing at Mendota Country Park in Middleton.
Before the Badgers hit the water, here are f(oar) things to know:
1. REFLECTING: Coming off of last week's Knecht Cup where the Badgers got to compete against a plethora of teams including both lightweight and openweight teams. They were able to gather much needed data to continue preparing for the rest of the season. Wisconsin is coming off of several wins from race weekend including the frosh eight, novice four and third varsity eight.Â
2. DUAL HISTORY:Â In the last meeting against Stanford, the Badgers won two of the three races.
When asking Coach Hodge Habibovic about Stanford, he said, "We have a lot of history and tradition with Stanford. When we raced them the last two years, we came to them in California. It's exciting for those athletes to come see Madison and for our squads to race against each other. It's going to be a good test for us. We're excited to try to defend our home turf."
3. ROW RANKING: The Badgers are ranked sixth in the lightweight varsity eight behind Princeton, Harvard-Radcliffe, Boston, Stanford and Georgetown. Fourth in the lightweight varsity four, behind Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard-Radcliffe. Finally, UW ranks sixth in the lightweight varsity double behind Princeton, Boston, Stanford, Oklahoma City, and MIT. Stanford is ranked fourth in the eight, first in four, and third in the double.
