Badgers send seniors off at home
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin track and field team hosts its final regular season meet at home on Friday at the McClimon Track Complex. Field events for the Badger Challenge are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with track events beginning at 3:20 p.m.
Live results will be available through PTTiming, and fans can follow the action on Twitter and Instagram @BadgerTrackXC and catch a recap following the meet on UWBadgers.com.
Admission is free for the home meet. Spectator parking is also available for $5 in the following lots: 60, 76 (ramp). If both of those lots are at capacity lot 67 (ramp) is also available as space allows at the hourly rate – pull a ticket upon entry. Lot 60 is free after 4:30 pm.
Here are five things to know before this weekend.
1. THANK YOU, SENIORS: The Wisconsin seniors compete in their final regular season meet this weekend. UW will honor 17 student-athletes – Lauren Bilau, CP Breit, Vivian Hacker, Mackenzie Heyroth, Victoria Heiligenthal, Erinn Hill, Kenzie Kluge, Ashley Peterson, Madison Mooney, Maya Rayle, Kiley Robbins, Olivia Roberts, Shea Ruhly, Anna Schoesser, Ellen Van Doorn, Samantha Stieve, Alexa Westley at 5:30 p.m. at the McClimon Track Complex. The Badgers honored several other seniors in 2023 and also have several athletes returning for another season of eligibility.
Thank you to all of our seniors for the dedication and hard work they have put into making Wisconsin track and cross country the successful programs that they are!
2. SEASON OF CHAMPIONS: Championship season is set to kick off in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Friday, May 10, with the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. A week after Big Tens, UW will turn its attention to the NCAA West Preliminary round on May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas,, before closing out the season with the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 5-8, in Eugene, Oregon.
3. DISTANCE WATCH: A handful of Badgers are entered to compete in the distance and middle distance events on Friday. Kylie Finger, Vivian Hacker, Victoria Heiligenthal, Ruby Madden, Maggie Munson, Anna Schoesser, and Carolyn Shult will all compete in the 1500 meters at 6:05 p.m. The women's 800 meters will follow, with Madison Mooney leading the way. She will go into the event with a season-best time of 2:05.14.
Hacker and Heiligenthal will also compete in the 5000 meters; they will be joined by Annika Elliott, Erinn Hill, and Bella Jacobsen.
4. THROWING DOWN WITH THE BADGERS: The Badgers' throwers are on a hot streak, setting personal bests and new school records. Graduate student leads a strong hammer throw crew that includes Danni Langseth, Abby Peeler, and Asia Rave. Roberts currently ranks fifth in the Big Ten in the hammer throw with a mark of 209-9 (63.93m), while Asia Rave is ninth with a distance of 192-4 (58.62m). The event is scheduled to start following the men's hammer throw.
Langseth will also compete in the shot put following the hammer throw. She is sixth on UW's Top Ten performance list and has a season-best of 53-11 ¾, ranking 11th in the Big Ten.
5. HOW HIGH CAN YOU GO: Lauren Bilau and Kenzie Kluge will compete in the pole vault on Friday at 3 p.m. This will be the first time the two compete this season. Kluge goes into the event with a personal best clearance of 12-6 ¾ (3.83m), while it will be the first time Bilau will compete during an outdoor season.
