
Five things to know: Badgers head west

Wisconsin travels to southern California for a busy week of competition
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team will be busy this weekend with five meets on the docket.
Four meets await the Badgers in California as UW opens the week with the hammer throwers competing at the Cal State LA Twilight on Wednesday. On Thursday, UW competes at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Long Beach, while the first day of the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa kicks off. The Bryan Clay Invitational continues through Friday and Saturday, while the Beach Invitational runs from Friday to Saturday.
In addition, a group of Badgers will race locally at the UW-Platteville Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
Here are five events to watch this weekend.
1. THROWING DOWN WITH THE BADGERS: UW throwers have a busy weekend, competing in up to three different meets. Graduate student Olivia Roberts will compete in the hammer throw this weekend, along with teammates Danni Langseth, Chikere Oduocha, Abby Peeler, and Asia Rave. Roberts ranks second all-time at UW with a personal best mark of 208 feet, 10 inches(63.67m), which ranks her No. 9 in Division I this season.
Redshirt sophomore Danni Langseth will also compete in the discus throw and shot put. Two weekends ago at the Battle of the Bayou, she finished 11th in the discus throw, with a season-best distance of 160-10 (49.04m) and 10th in the shot put with a toss of 51-10 1/2 (15.81m).
2. ADDING A SPARK: Sprint star Kiley Robbins will compete in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter this weekend. Robbins is coming off a No. 9 time in the NCAA this season in the 100 meters, with 11.29 seconds to finish 10th in a field featuring four professional athletes. Her time is also the second-best in the Big Ten Conference this year.
3. LAPS, LAPS, AND MORE LAPS: The Badgers have a large field of competitors in distance events this weekend, starting Friday when Leane Willemse, Maya Rayle, Shea Ruhly, Bella Jacobsen, and Samantha Stieve compete in the 5,000 meters. Willemse is the reigning Indoor Big Ten Champion in the 5,000 meters and has a personal best outdoor time of 15:48.
Alexa Westley will cap off day one in the 10,000 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational; in the event, Westley has a personal best time of 33:17.64.
4. MIDDLE DISTANCE MAYHEM: A strong field of middle-distance runners will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Graduate student Madison Mooney will lead the group in both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters. Mooney is coming off a second-place finish in the 1500 meters, crossing in 4:15.95, and a second-place finish in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:05.14 at the Stanford Invitational.
5. TRIO OF HEPTATHLETES: Shaina Zinter, Kyla Saleh, and Maddie Hogan will return to compete in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Zinter last competed in Baton Rouge, where she took 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 59.49 seconds, ranking ninth on UW's all-time list. Zinter goes into the weekend with a personal best score of 5,164 points in the heptathlon, while Saleh and Hogan will compete in their first collegiate heptathlon.
