Badgers advance all five of their boats to Saturday grand finals

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Wisconsin women's lightweight rowing put all five of its boats into Saturday's grand finals at the 2024 Dad Vail Regatta that began on Friday.

Instead of racing on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia where the race typically takes place, the event was held nearby on the Cooper River in New Jersey due to river dredging.

Either way, the Badgers did what they needed on Friday by reaching Saturday grand finals in the freshman/novice eight, varsity double, varsity four, second varsity four and lightweight four events.

The Badgers did so by winning time trials and semifinals in the freshman/novice eight and varsity four events, while also winning the second varsity four semifinal and finishing second in the varsity double semifinal. UW's only lightweight race took place in the lightweight four, where it placed third among five entries in the morning time trial. All entries will race again in grand finals.

Named after former Wisconsin men's rowing head coach Henry "Dad" Vail (1911-28), the Badgers finish up the regatta on Saturday beginning with the freshman/novice eight at 11:56 a.m. CT.

The event streams live on youtube. Catch live resuts, as well.
