Huss advances to NCAA Championship

UW senior wins 5-hole tiebreaker to become first Badger since 2008 to qualify for NCAA Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the first time since 2008, a Badger is headed to the NCAA Championship as Cameron Huss qualified for the tournament after finishing five-under par at the NCAA Regional tournament. In a three-way tie after regulation, Huss won the sudden-death playoff stretching into five holes to earn his first career qualification to the national tournament in California.

The Wisconsin senior shot 211 (66-74-74) at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, which ties the best 54-hole score recorded by a Badger at an NCAA tournament, previously set by Ron Wuensch in 1991 when he won the Central Regional with 69-72-70=211. Huss is the first Badger since Dan Woltman to qualify for the NCAA Championship. Woltman qualified in 2008 after finishing T19 (71-68-79=218) at the NCAA West Regional to advance.

Round 3

In the final round of the tournament, Huss shot a one-under 71, bringing him to five-under par overall and tying for fourth place.

A late birdie on Hole 16 allowed Huss to tie with the two other low individuals, forcing the three-golfer playoff. Despite finding the water on the second hole of the playoff, Huss was able to recover and move on. After five holes of sudden elimination, Huss punched his ticket to the 2024 NCAA National Championship with a birdie, outlasting golfers from Middle Tennessee State and Mississippi State.
