Badgers shine in regular-season finale at McClimon

UW claims five event titles at Badger Challenge on Friday

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team capped off its regular season with five victories and seven personal bests at the Badger Challenge on Friday at the McClimon Track and Field Complex.

Badgers dominate on the track

On the track, Madison Mooney ran a season-best time of 2 minutes, 4.97 seconds in the 800 meters. With that time, Mooney will rank sixth in the Big Ten before heading to Ann Arbor next weekend. Anna Schoesser followed with a sixth-place showing, crossing in 2:14.63. 

UW had three athletes capture top-five finishes in the 5000 meters. Zaira Malloy Salgado won the seventh while competing unattached, finishing with a time of 17:25.24. Erinn Hill followed with a third-place showing in 17:39.70, followed by Ashley Peterson, who came in fourth at 17:46.78. 

Sisters Rachel Robinson and Sydney Robinson competed alongside one another in the 100-meter dash. Rachel finished the fourth crossing in 12.07 seconds, while Sydney finished the ninth in 12.43 seconds. In the 200 meters Maddie Hogan and Kyla Saleh both put on personal best performances. Hogan finished fifth, crossing in 26.28 seconds, while Saleh finished sixth in 26.70 seconds. 

In the 100-meter hurdles, all three Badgers set personal best marks. Shaina Zinter was the first to cross in 13.93 seconds for second place. It was back-to-back finishes from Maddie Hogan and Kyla Saleh, respectively, for fourth and fifth place. Hogan finished in 14.95 seconds, with Saleh finishing in 15.01 seconds. Freshman Karina Janik won the 400-meter hurdles, crossing in 1:02.45 seconds.

Sydney Robinson, Rachel Robinson, Kiley Robbins, and Elissa Perkins's 4x100 squad finished second with a time of 46.50 seconds.       

Kylie Finger won the 1500 meters to close the night out, crossing with a time of 4:21.09. Ellen Van Doorn competed unattached, finishing second in  4:28.40, with Vivian Hacker finishing fourth with a personal best time of 4:31.15.  Anna Schoesser rounded out Badger scorers with a sixth-place finish in 4:42.32. 

Field athletes control competition 

In the hammer throw, all three Badgers earned top-five finishes. Chloe Lindeman competed unattached and threw a distance of  218 feet 1 inch(66.49m), which earned her a second-place finish. It was then three back-to-back finishes for the Badgers, Olivia Roberts once again found herself leading the hammer throw squad. The Plymouth, Minnesota native had her best throw in the first round of the competition, and she threw for 206-8 (63.01m), which secured her third place. Roberts goes into championship season with a personal best mark of 209-9 (63.93m), which ranks her fifth in the Big Ten this season. Asia Rave came in third with a distance of 194-11 (59.42m), while Danni Langseth finished fifth with a mark of 177-0 (53.96m). 

Freshman Zonica Lindque competed unattached in the shot-put, securing a second-place finish with a mark of 56-2 ½ (17.13m). Langseth jumped right back into things, finishing third with a toss of 54-3 ¼ (16.54m).

Taylor Kesner was another Badger who competed unattached. She won the discus throw with a distance of 189-2 (57.67m). Chikere Oduocha earned a third-place finish for UW with a throw of 168-0 (51.21m). Zonica Lindeque also competed unattached in the discus throw, finishing behind Oduocha with a mark of 163-2 (51.21m) in fourth place.  Kesner also won the javelin competing unattached, she won with a mark of 166-0 (50.60m). 

Freshman Elissa Perkins continues her stellar season, setting yet another personal best mark in the long jump. The Bolingbrook, Illinois native saw her best jump in the fifth round, going a distance of 19-2 (5.84m) for second. Perkins followed with a win in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of  40-7 1/2 (12.38m). 

In the high jump, Kyla Saleh picked up a second-place finish with a personal best clearance of 5-6 ½ (1.69m), and Shaina Zinter finished third with a personal best mark of 5-4 ½ (1.64m). Kenzi Kluge made her outdoor debut in the pole vault, collecting a second-place finish with a clearance of 12-0 ½ (3.67m).

The Badgers are eyeing the postseason as the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships get underway next weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
