MADISON, Wis. — Graduate student Phoebe Bacon and sophomore diver Vivian Kinnard of the Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team have been named to the 2024-25 Big Ten Women's Swimmers and Divers to Watch List, announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
Bacon has racked up a highly decorated career at UW. In 2021, she was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was also crowned NCAA Champion in the 200m Back. She was back-to-back Big Ten Champion in the 100m and 200m backstroke. During her junior year season, she was named the 2023 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year. Last season, Bacon earned Big Ten first team, Big Ten Swimmer of the Championship and clinched the 2024 200 Back NCAA Champion crown.
The graduate student is entering her final year with the Wisconsin swim and dive team after finishing in fourth place at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Bacon missed a medal by just 0.04 seconds in the 200 backstroke. She is a two-time Olympian, as she finished in fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Games in the 200 backstroke.
In her second season with the Badgers, Kinnard is looking to improve upon a successful freshman season. The Michigan native was a high school four-time All-American and finished fourth place at the USA Diving Nationals on the platform. In her freshman season, she clinched first, second and third place finishes in meets throughout the season. With her first place finish vs Green Bay, Kinnard scored 288.90 points, for her highest finish of her collegiate career.
The Badgers will begin their 2024-25 campaign on Friday, October 11 at home against Green Bay.
