Badgers earn first ranked win since 2023
MADISON, Wis. — A late scoring surge helped lift the Wisconsin women's basketball team (7–3, 1–0 B1G) to a 78-64 win over the No. 20 Michigan State Spartans (8-1, 0-1 B1G) on Sunday night at the Kohl Center.Â
Gift Uchenna stuffed the stat sheet with a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds, alongside matching her career high in blocks with 7. Ronnie Porter added a double-double of her own, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Porter also tabbed eight assists. Kyrah Daniels added 14 points on 5-8 shooting, including a 4-5 performance from beyond the arc.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wisconsin opened the game with a strong offensive showing. The Badgers controlled the tempo out of the gate with a 10-0 run over a 3-minute, 26-second frame. Destiny Howell set the tone with a five-point run to close out the first quarter.
The Badgers and Spartans traded baskets to open the second quarter. On the defensive end, Wisconsin held strong, forcing 10 turnovers to convert nine points. On the inside, Uchena contributed three blocks to help the Badgers take a 35-28 lead into the half.Â
Wisconsin came out of the locker room hot, led by strong performances on the three-ball. Ware opened the Badgers' scoring output with a three of her own. Later in the quarter, three consecutive 3-pointers came from Daniels, Porter and Krahn. Of all the Badgers' points, 33 came from the three-ball.Â
The Badgers extended their lead in the fourth quarter, thanks to a 12-2 run over four minutes that helped pad the win by 14 points. Wisconsin's bench contributed nine points to help secure the 78-64 win.
As a team Wisconsin shot 47% from the field (28-59), 46% from the three (11-24) and 69% from the free throw line (11-16). On the other end the Spartans shot 38% from the field (24-63), 23% from three (5-22), and 61% from charity stripe (11-18).Â

The Badgers stay at the Kohl Center to host the San Diego Toreros at 11 a.m. on Dec. 10. The game will serve as Wisconsin annual Education Day.Â
