CONWAY, S.C. – The Wisconsin softball team (11-6) started off the Chanticleer Showdown in South Carolina with two dramatic victories - coming from behind against UConn, 5-1, and winning in extras against Coastal Carolina, 6-4.
Â
GAME ONE
Wisconsin utilized a late rally to beat UConn in the team's first game of the day.
Trailing 1-0 through most of the game, the Badgers put together a five-run sixth inning to comeback and beat the Huskies.
Sophomore Danielle Lucey capped the inning off with a three-run home run, breaking the game open for Wisconsin.
Â
The Badgers tied things up at the start of the inning, after pinch-runner Emma King came around to score off a series of stolen bases and bunts, with Alivia Bark collecting the RBI.Â
The late-game heroics were made possible by a stellar pitching performance from Molly Jacobson. Jacobson went the full 7.0 innings, allowing just one earned run - a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
The grad struck out three batters, allowed six hits, and improved her record to 4-1. The Wisconsin defense backed her up all game, committing no errors, and converting nine ground outs.
UW had another great game on the basepaths as well, with two of the team's runs being set up via the stolen base. Wisconsin stole four stolen bases in the game, and laid down two successful sacrifice hits.

GAME TWO
The Badgers came out on top of a nine-inning back and forth battle against Coastal Carolina, taking the victory, 6-4.
After trading blows throughout the game, Wisconsin finally broke through in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded, the Badgers hustled down the paths to score two runners off a wild pitch. In the same at-bat, Emily Bojan ripped a single to left to score one more.
Gabi Salo, who started the game, closed out things in the bottom frame. Coastal Carolina's automatic runner scored during the inning, but Salo coaxed a flyball in the next at-bat to seal the Badger's 6-4 win.
The two teams went into extra innings tied up, 2-2. Hilary Blomberg gave Wisconsin the lead off an RBI double, but the Chanticleers retaliated by singling in their automatic runner - keeping the game in extras.
Before extra innings, the majority of the game was scoreless, with both Salo and Coastal Carolina's Nicolette Piccone putting up zeros. The Chanticleers looked like they would take the victory in the bottom of the seventh, loading up the bases with nobody out. But a leaping catch from second-baseman Hannah Conger, and a strikeout from Gabi Salo allowed the Badgers to send the game into extras.
The Chanticleers struck first in the contest, homering against Salo in the bottom of the first inning. The Badgers answered right back with a two-run double from Emmy Wells.
The home run that Salo allowed was responsible for her only two earned runs given up on the night. The grad pitched 9.0 innings, striking out five batters and not allowing a single walk. Her record improves to 5-2 this season.
Wisconsin collected 10 hits in the game and had multiple chances to score in the first seven innings. The Badgers got caught in a rundown between third and home in the top of the fifth inning, unable to score. The next inning seemingly saw Wisconsin take the lead after an Emily Bojan double, but upon further review, the runner was called out for leaving the base too early.
The Badgers start the Chanticleer Showdown 2-0.
