BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Wisconsin softball team (4-1) finished off its weekend at the Paradise Classic with a 2-0 win over Georgia State this Sunday.
The Badgers were led by an excellent pitching performance from senior
Gabi Salo, starting in her first game of the season.
Salo went the distance in the game, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits, one walk, and punching out six batters. The Michigan-native went through the entire Georgia State lineup once, before giving up her first base runner of the game in the fourth inning - a bunt single.
The majority of the game was a pitchers duel, outside of the bottom of the fourth inning when the Badgers broke through the scoreless tie. A leadoff single from
Brooke Kuffel set up a sac fly from
Emmy Wells, putting the Badgers on the board.
In the next at-bat,
Ellie Hubbard doubled to bring home another runner, providing the Badgers with an insurance run.
The Badger defense backed up Salo throughout the game. Middle Infielders Hubbard and
Hannah Conger stayed busy with six assists between the two, while Salo threw out two runners herself. Wisconsin committed just one error in the game, and held the Panthers to 0-for-8 with runners on base.
Wisconsin tallied six hits in the game with one extra base-hit - Hubbard's double. The team left seven runners on base, and were 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
The Badgers finished the Paradise Classic going 4-1, they're currently on a four game winning streak.
