Chan and Carter tie for second overall with matching 3-over par scores

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — Led by standout performances from Chloe Chan and Carly Carter, the Wisconsin women's golf team showed it can compete with some of the best teams in the nation this weekend at the Chattanooga Classic. In a 15-team field that included four top-30 teams, the Badgers led the field after the first two rounds, ultimately concluding with an impressive third-place finish.

Chan and Carter fired matching 3-over par scores at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn. to tie for second overall on the individual leaderboard.

"I'm really proud of how we played this weekend," head coach Todd Oehrlein said. "The team has been working really hard and it was great to see it come together for them.

"In particular, we're so excited about how Carly and Chloe played. It was a great tournament for both of them. They were really solid all weekend off the tee and managed the moment really well. The Honors Course is ranked as one of the top 100 golf courses in the world, and it was an incredible test all weekend."

As a team, the Badgers navigated windy conditions to finish with a score of +26, equaling 10th-ranked North Carolina for third and just one stroke back of 13th-ranked Virginia for second. Florida (No. 27) claimed the overall victory with a score of +15. Wisconsin finished ahead of 22nd-ranked Duke and No. 46 Campbell.

Wisconsin led the entire field after the first two rounds, shooting 12-over par through 36 holes, before settling into third place with a 14-over par team score on the final 18 holes. The scheduled three-day tournament was shortened to two days with 36 holes played on Saturday to avoid Sunday storms.

After opening with a 2-over par 74 on Friday, Chan posted a 1-under par 71 during Saturday's first 18 holes. The senior then fired a 2-over 74 in the final 18 holes to secure the silver place finish. Chan posted nine birdies throughout the weekend.

Carter was consistent over all three rounds as well, firing a 2-over par 74 to open the event before shooting Even par and 1-over on Saturday's 36 holes. The senior tallied seven birdies over the 72-hole event.

Wisconsin got contributions up and down the lineup during the tournament. Vanessa Ho finished 31st overall with a +12 score. After posting a 7-over opening round, the senior bounced back going 73-76 during challenging conditions on Saturday.

Kate Brody was terrific in the opening round, leading the Badgers with a 2-under, 70. The sophomore carded five birdies on the round pushing UW toward the top of the team standings on Friday. She finished 43rd overall with a score of 14-over par (70-81-79).

Up next, the Badgers travel to the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational at Ohio State on April 12-13.
