Wisconsin will face No. 9 Ohio State and Penn State
MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team will close out their regular season with a road trip to No. 9 Ohio State and Penn State before heading to California for the Big Ten Tournament.
BADGERS IN THE RANKINGS:
Wisconsin moved up one spot in the team rankings on Tuesday, moving from 25 to 24. This move comes after back-to-back victories over Purdue and Indiana over the weekend, in which the Badgers played some great tennis. Maria Sholokhova comes in at No. 8 in the singles rankings as well as No. 46 in the doubles rankings alongside partner Ariel Johnson. Taylor Cataldi makes an appearance in the singles rankings at No. 109 after a couple of impressive wins over the weekend. The Badgers will look to bolster their resume before postseason play against Ohio State and Penn State.Â
LAST TIME OUT:
Wisconsin closed out its home schedule last weekend with two key wins over Purdue and Indiana. Against Purdue, the Badgers dropped the doubles point but bounced back with a dominant singles performance to secure a 4-2 victory.
Sunday's match against Indiana marked Senior Day, as the team honored Taylor Cataldi and Ariel Johnson in their final home appearances. Wisconsin took control early and never looked back, earning a 4-1 win with standout performances from Cataldi and Tianna Rangan. The victory completed a perfect 8-0 home season at Nielsen Tennis Stadium—the program's first undefeated home record since 2019-20.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES:
No. 9 Ohio State enters the weekend with a 16-2 overall record and a 10-1 mark in Big Ten play, placing them second in the conference. Head coach Melissa Schaub, now in her 11th season, has led the Buckeyes to 10 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a semifinal run in 2017. Ohio State boasts a deep and balanced roster, led by sophomore Luciana Perry, who is ranked No. 9 in singles. Three other Buckeyes are also featured in the top 125. The team is undefeated at home this season.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS:
Penn State holds a 13-8 overall record and a 4-7 Big Ten mark, currently placing them 12th in the conference standings. With only the top 12 teams qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament, the Nittany Lions are fighting to secure their spot. Head coach Alexandra McIntyre is in her fifth season at the helm. The roster features a young core, supported by veteran leadership from seniors Yvonne Zuffova and Deanna Lasorda.
UP NEXT:
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Badgers will travel to Ojai, California to compete in the Big Ten Tournament from April 23–26.
