THE NATIONAL STAGE
John Blackwell earned another honor this week, being one-of-10 players nationally to be named to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Midseason Watch List. Blackwell joins Illinois’ Keaton Wagler as the only Big Ten guards on the list. The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, native ranks eighth in the Big Ten in scoring at 18.5 points per game, while also averaging 5.0 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per contest. The only Badgers to average at least 18.0 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game and 2 assists per game are Michael Finley (1993, 1994 and 1995), Alando Tucker (2007), Frank Kaminsky (2015) and Johnny Davis (2022). All five were All-American Honorable Mentions, or higher.

GARDING THE BIG TEN
Wisconsin enters this month with an 8-3 record in Big Ten action, matching the second-best 11-game start under head coach Greg Gard. It’s the fifth time in 11 seasons opening with eight wins, trailing only the 2016-17.
Gard also moved up the All-Time Big Ten Wins List last Saturday, tying Iowa's Tom Davis for 19th with 125 wins. UW’s next win will vault Gard into a tie for 18th place with Michigan's John Beilein.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
Nolan Winter joined an elite group at Wisconsin on Saturday with his 10th double-double of the year thanks to an 11-point, 11-rebound outing. The Lakeville, Minnesota, native became the third Badger since 2000 to record 10+ double-doubles in a single season, joining All-Americans Ethan Happ and Frank Kaminsky.
Winter is tied for second in the conference in double-doubles, trailing only Washington’s Hannes Steinbach, while Winter’s 10 double-doubles rank 20th in the country.

TABLES HAVE TURNED
UW has won 26 of the last 31 matchups with Indiana, including 12 of the last 15. Prior to Bo Ryan and Greg Gard’s arrival in 2002, the Badgers were 49-91 against IU all-time, but have gone 32-8 in the 40 matchups since. Wisconsin’s 26-5 record over Indiana since 2007-8 is the best by a Big Ten team against IU by a near six games (Purdue 21-11).
The Hoosiers come into Saturday’s contest at 15-8, and 6-6 in the Big Ten. They beat UCLA, 98-97, last Saturday before falling to USC on Tuesday to split their Los Angeles road trip. Lamar Wilkerson leads Indiana at 20.2 points per game. Between IU and UW, the two rank in the Big Ten’s top four teams in terms of three-pointers per game.
