MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team will look to continue its winning ways this week, as they take on Purdue at Bittinger Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. beginning on Thursday, Apr. 2.Â
Game one on Thursday will begin at 4:00 p.m. CT and will be televised on Big Ten Network. Friday's game is slated for 4:00 p.m. CT as well, while Saturday's series finale will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT. The final two battles of the weekend will be streamed on B1G+.Â
The Boilermakers (25-10, 5-4 B1G) lead the all-time series over the Badgers (19-11, 5-4 B1G) at 36-32, yet UW has won seven consecutive games over Purdue at Bittinger Stadium—dating back to the 2017 season. The two teams split a pair of games last season at a neutral site in Oklahoma.
The Badgers have won five of their six games over the past two weekends, most recently sweeping Maryland in their first series at Goodman Diamond this season.Â
The offense has continued to click on all cylinders, posting 12 runs in a five-inning victory this past Sunday. Junior Hilary Blomberg has been in the middle of it all, finishing 6-for-8 with three home runs and seven RBI en route to earning Big Ten Player of the Week, the first weekly conference honor of her career. Blomberg barreled two home runs in the series finale, including a three-run blast that sealed the run-rule win. The Verona, Wis. native enters West Lafayette with a .483 BA in Big Ten play, slugging 1.034 through nine games.Â
Senior Emily Bojan has reached base in all 30 games this season from the leadoff spot, joining Kelsey Jenkins (2015-18) as the second Badger to earn an on-base streak of 30 or more games. Jenkins did it twice during her time at UW, reaching 40 (2018) and 31 (2017).Â
In the middle of the lineup, juniors Alivia Bark and Danielle Lucey have benefitted from the top's production. Bark has tallied 12 multi-RBI games this season, tied for the seventh-most in program history in a single year. The right-handed hitter recently posted three in Sunday's series finale, sending a bases-clearing triple to right field in the first inning versus the Terrapins.Â
Lucey has quietly put together a strong showing on the offensive end, in addition to being a defensive staple in the outfield for the Badgers. The Cottage Grove, Wis. native enters West Lafayette with a .400 BA in conference play, tallying 10 hits in 25 at bats—including two doubles.Â
To round out the order, junior Makenzie Foster and sophomore Hannah Conger combined for 11 hits over the weekend against Maryland. Foster set a career-high for most doubles in a game, racking up two on Sunday. The day before, the lefty earned two of the Badgers' three RBIs in a 3-0 victory. Conger has been more of the same, finishing with at least one hit in each of the three games at Goodman this past weekend.Â
In the circle, Wisconsin earned its sixth shutout of the season and first in conference play on Saturday afternoon, as freshman Berritt Herr, sophomore Jordan Felci and sophomore Kendra Lewis combined to silence the Terrapins in the aforementioned 3-0 win. Senior Shelby Jacobson was responsible for the other two wins on the weekend, as the right-hander and Herr have accounted for 16 of the Badgers' 19 wins through eight weeks of play.Â
Up Next: The Badgers will return home and take a break from Big Ten action, welcoming Loyola-Chicago to Goodman Diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 8. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. CT, as the midweek battle will be streamed on B1G+.Â
