MADISON, Wis. -

The doubles duo of senior Moritz Baumann and junior Marek Michalicka picked up four doubles wins on its way to the semifinals Sunday afternoon at the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Tennessee’s John-Patrick Smith and Boris Conkic knocked out the highest-remaining doubles team, defeating third-seeded Baumann and Michalicka, 8-3 in the semis. To advance to the semifinals the Badger duo defeated Tim Puetz and Alex Stamchev of Auburn, 8-5. The Vols duo went on to win the doubles championship, while Smith also went on to win the singles championship.

As the No. 3-ranked doubles team, the two defeated Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha of Duke in a swift 8-3 match. The pair then faced Matt Allare and Shuhei Uzawa of Ohio State, picking up another win for the Badgers in this 8-4 victory.

On the singles side, Baumann advanced to the round of 16 after winning a close match against UCLA’s Matt Brooklyn. The UW senior proved too much for the Bruin, as he won 6-3, 7-6 (3). After his early win, Baumann fell to Steven Johnson of Southern California in a tight 7-6 (2), 6-3 match.

Teammate Michalicka also had an early 6-3, 6-2 win over Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan of Washington. However Michalicka also lost in the round of 16 to No. 3-ranked Robert Farah of Southern California in a tough 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 three-setter.

Despite his triumphant effort in the qualifying portion of the tournament, UW sophomore Patrick Pohlmann did not advance to the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships.
