MADISON, Wis. -- In his first year playing at the Big Ten Indoors, freshman Chris Freeman was the only Badger to advance to the quarterfinals. After enduring two days of singles play, Freeman defeated three opponents to get to the final eight where he faced 15th-seeded Jason Lee of Penn State.
Freeman put up a fight, forcing Lee to a first-set tiebreak. Although the freshman battled back in the second, he eventually lost the match 7-6(4), 7-5.
Before matching up against Freeman, Lee defeated fellow Badger senior Luke Rassow-Kantor 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16.
Ninth-seeded Billy Bertha won two matches to advance to the round of 16 where he faced No. 4-seed Santiago Gruter of Indiana. The Hoosier proved too much for the UW freshman as Bertha lost in straight 6-3, 6-3 sets.
The Badgers will finish doubles play on Monday, Nov. 2. Check back to UWBadgers.com for complete tournament results.
