TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- An All-America finish by true freshman Mohammed Ahmed led the University of Wisconsin men's cross country team to a seventh-place finish Monday at the 2009 NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind.

Ahmed was the first Wisconsin runner to cross the line in the 10-kilometer race, finishing in 30th place in a time of 30:14.4. Having finished in the top 40 overall, Ahmed earned the first All-America honor of his career.

Oklahoma State won the meet with a score of 127. The Cowboys were followed by Oregon with 143 points and Alabama with 173 team points. No.1-ranked Stanford finished in 10th place with 354 team points.

The Badgers finished in seventh place with 321 team points.

Last year's NCAA runner-up, junior Sam Chelanga of Liberty University, won the men's individual title, crossing the finish line a full 25 seconds before the second place finisher in a time of 28:41.3.

Senior Craig Miller, a first-team All-Big Ten honoree, was next to finish for the Badgers, claiming 49th place in a time of 30:29.0. Miller was the fourth runner to score for Wisconsin last year when he finished in 71st place.

Sophomore Elliot Krause finished in 75th place in a time of 30:39.7. This was Krause's first race since leading the Badgers to their 11th-straight Big Ten title, where he also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Junior Landon Peacock crossed the finish line in 96th place in a time of 30:52.4. Last year, Peacock finished in 21st place, earning All-America honors.

Redshirt freshman Maverick Darling, the 2009 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, rounded out the scoring for the Badgers, finishing in 144th place in a time of 31:20.3. Prior to Monday, Darling had finished among the top 15 runners in every race he competed in this season.

Junior Jack Bolas and senior Ryan Gasper also ran for the Badgers, finishing in 153rd place (31:24.4) and 195th place (31:53.7), respectively.

In the second season under head coach Mick Byrne, Wisconsin won its 11th-straight Big Ten championship and eighth-straight NCAA Great Lakes Regional title. Byrne also claimed the Big Ten Coach of the Year award and coached his athletes to four first-team All-Big Ten honors, two second-team All-Big ten honors, five first-team All-Regional awards and a Big Ten Freshman of the Year honoree in 2009.
