MADISON, Wis. -- At the end of the third day at the ITA National Indoor Championship, senior Moritz Baumann and junior Marek Michalicka advanced to the final round in the doubles consolation bracket.

After a surprising loss as the No. 4-seed in the opening match of the main draw, the Badger duo came back to an 8-3 win over Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen of Harvard in the consolation bracket.

This win bumped the second-seeded Baumann/Michalicka to the consolation semifinals where they easily defeated Alberto Gonzalez and Michael Johnson of Auburn University in an 8-3 victory for the Badgers.

In the finals, the pair faced the Aleksey Bessonov and Olekesandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State. Although the Badgers were coming off of two solid wins, they fell just short of the consolation title, losing 8-3 against the top-seeded doubles team.

This loss marks the end of the tournament for Baumann and Michalicka. The Badger duo, along with the rest of the team, will resume play on Jan. 23 when Wisconsin hosts Butler, UW-Whitewater and Green Bay in their its first dual matches of the season.
