The weather couldn't stop the Badgers from getting their first goal Friday night. After 303 scoreless minutes, Taryn Francel gave Wisconsin (1-1-1) its first win of the season against Green Bay in a 1-0 double overtime thriller Friday night at McClimon. Her goal came after a one-hour game delay due to rain and lightning, and after Wisconsin was forced into double overtime for the second straight game.

The first half belonged to Wisconsin, tallying 12 corner kicks and 11 shots. The Badgers, who had 10 corners in their first two games combined, had 23 Friday night against the Phoenix for an NCAA record corners in a game. The previous record of 22 was set in 1995 by UNC-Wilmington vs. Chowan. The UW had multiple chances to score including two scrambles in front of the goal line.

Krista Liskevych had a shot within the six-yard box that was blocked and Laurie Nosbusch rebounded with a shot that Green Bay's keeper Maddie Drusch pulled in. Less than two minutes later, Erin Jacobsen had a shot that Drusch pushed over the top of the crossbar. The Badgers maintained possession for most of the game attacking the Phoenix backline and getting multiple chances from close range.

Nearly 10 minutes into the second period, officials called for a game delay due to lightning. The delay lasted approximately one hour and 10 minutes. After the lightning and intense rain passed, play resumed and fans trickled back in. UW played to another scoreless 45 minutes, but not before getting six more shots off.

At the halfway point of the first overtime, Nosbusch nearly ended the game with a shot from the left corner of the box, drawing Drusch out to her. Nosbusch's shot went wide and Wisconsin would continue to battle.

At the 104th minute of play, Wisconsin won the game following a back and forth sequence of events. After a scramble in front of the net, Francel scored the winning goal with assists from Nosbusch and Darcy Riley. It was Francel's first collegiate goal.

Wisconsin outshot the Phoenix 21-6, and finished with 23 corner kicks to Green Bay 's 3. Lauren Gunderson had 2 saves in her first collegiate start. The Badgers extended their winning streak to 14-0-0 against the Phoenix.

Wisconsin will close out its three game homestand against Northern Illinois Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
