MADISON, Wis. - The No. 32 University of Wisconsin men’s tennis team opened the 2010 season on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Butler.

The Badgers began the match by winning the doubles point as the duos of Mike Dierberger with Luke Rassow-Kantor, and Billy Bertha and Marek Michalicka both earned 8-3 victories.

The 20th-ranked Michalicka also won his singles match against Butler’s Chris Herron, 6-2, 6-3.

After falling in his doubles match alongside Chris Freeman, Patrick Pohlmann bounced back to defeat Bryce Warren of the Bulldogs in singles by scores of 7-5, 6-1. Pohlmann trailed deep into the first set but was unstoppable once in rhythm.

Bertha, Rassow-Kantor and Ricardo Martin also recorded singles victories for the Badgers.

The victory establishes a pristine 7-0 all-time record against Butler.
