MADISON, Wis. – The No. 30-ranked Wisconsin men’s tennis team took down Michigan State, 6-1, Saturday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich. The Badgers improve to 13-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
Wisconsin’s two ranked players, No. 17 Moritz Baumann and No. 21 Marek Michalicka, went unbeaten in the outing. In doubles, the No. 15-ranked duo was challenged by MSU’s Austin Brooks and John Stratton but held its ground with a 9-8 win.
In singles, Michalicka improved to 14-0 in singles with his eighth victory at the No. 1 spot defeating Ronnie Hulewicz, 6-1, 6-4. Baumann followed in the No. 2 spot dropping Brooks, 6-1, 6-2.
The Badgers went unbeaten in doubles as the No. 79-ranked pair of Luke Rassow-Kantor and Mike Dierberger and Patrick Pohlmann and Billy Bertha picked up 8-6 wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots, respectively.
Wisconsin picked up singles wins at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 spots, with Bertha pulling it out in a super tiebreaker.
MSU avoided the shutout when Denis Bogatov got past Pohlmann at the No. 3 slot.
Wisconsin remains on the road to take on No. 26 Michigan on Sunday. Match time is set for 11 a.m. CT.
