OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Wisconsin men's soccer team took No. 16 Creighton to overtime but surrendered the game-winning goal in the 96th minute as the Bluejays claimed a 1-0 win over the Badgers in front of 2,862 fans at Morrison Stadium on Friday night.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Vint (Plymouth, Minn.) tallied a new career high with eight saves as Creighton (6-1-0) outshot the Badgers 18-5 and posted 10 shots on goal to Wisconsin's one.

Six minutes into overtime, junior forward Ethan Finlay scored the game-winner for the Bluejays off an assist from Kris Clark. Wisconsin appeared to have cleared a CU corner kick, but Creighton regained possession near the top of the 18-yard box. Creighton played the ball back in and Clark flicked a header to Finlay, whose low shot deflected off a player in the still-crowded six-yard box and skimmed under the crossbar into the Badgers' net.
"We had chances to win it tonight," head coach John Trask said. "Late in the game, we really took over but we just couldn't push on and get that goal. Then, Creighton's All-American forward [Finlay] found his chance in overtime, and that was it.
"Creighton is a talented team with a good coaching staff. Their coaches admitted it, and I agree, that we are becoming a good soccer team. We're right there, on the verge. The results will start turning out way."
Wisconsin (1-5-1) and Vint have surrendered just two goals in the last three games, including two games with extra time. Vint owns a 1.07 goals against average in seven games this season.
Junior Austin Spohn (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied Wisconsin's lone shot on goal against the Bluejays. Spohn connected on a shot in the 87th minute, but CU keeper Brian Holt made the save en route to the shutout victory.
"I can't manufacture the win for the guys tonight," Trask said. "I wish I could because we showed that we deserved to win this game, I thought. Hopefully we can bounce back and get a good result against Marquette on Tuesday."
With his eight stops tonight, Vint was five saves short of cracking UW's top-five list for saves in a single game; Mark LaPorte holds the record for single-game saves at 17, set in 1981. Four Badgers are tied for third in single-game saves with 13.
As three of Wisconsin's seven games have went to overtime already this season, the Badgers are on pace to break the program record for overtime matches in a single season. Wisconsin has had a record seven overtime games in three seasons (1982, 1996 and 1997). The 2010 Badgers are 0-2-1 in overtime games.
The Badgers travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for a midweek meeting with in-state rival Marquette on Tuesday, Sept.28, before heading to Indiana for their Big Ten Conference opener on Oct. 3.
