Day 1 results
Madison, Wis. -- The Big Ten Quad Duals kicked off Friday evening, as the Badgers traveled to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete against Purdue and Minnesota.
Friday served as the first day of the two-day event, with the action scheduled to finish up Saturday at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
Daniel Lester was the only Wisconsin swimmer to finish first in multiple events on Friday, winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.54) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.67).
Michael Weiss also had a successful day for the Badgers, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.97) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.96).
The first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, saw the Wisconsin `A' team of Jesse Stipek, Matt Pircon, Daniel Lester, and Wes Lagerhausen take second in a season-best time of 1:31.47.
Similarly, the 800-yard freestyle relay saw the Badgers finish third, as Austin Cox, Luke Lengfeld, Kyle Thompson, and Jeff Morris finished in a time of 6:50.10.
Three members of the Badgers finished high in the 100-yard backstroke, as Jesse Stipek (50.56) finished fourth, followed by Garrett Mulchrone (50.83) and Sam Rowan (51.03), who finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Rowan's time was a season-best for him, beating his previous time by a full three seconds.
Sam Rowan and Tariq Miller both set season-best times in the 200-yard individual medley, as Rowan placed second (1:51.62) and Miller followed in a time of 1:54.41 to finish in fifth place.
Miller, participating in his third meet of the season, complemented his 200-yard individual medley finish by taking sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.39).
In the diving portion of the meet, Michael Ross was the only Badger to place, as he dove to a fifth-place finish on the 3-meter board (357.05) and an eighth place finish on the 1-meter board (274.35).
The rest of the events will take place on Saturday with the three teams beginning the competition at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday morning.
