MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's soccer team finally captured the victory that had long seemed to elude them, and in the process found new life on its season, claiming a 1-0 win over Green Bay at the McClimon Complex on Tuesday night.

Tom Barlow scored an early goal in the 22nd minute, then the Badgers (2-7-1, 0-3-0 Big Ten) locked down defensively on the Phoenix (3-5-3, 0-1-1 Horizon League) and clinched their second win of the season.

A group that has battled in a number of close contests, it marked the first win for Wisconsin since Aug. 31 against Xavier during the team's season-opening homestand.

"It's important for the players' psyche," UW head coach John Trask said of the win. "I thought Adrian Remeniuk was exceptional. He kept us in the game, which is the job of a goalkeeper, and compliment to him. There were a couple of tough situations for him to deal with in the first half and he made the saves and gave us a chance."

 Fast Facts
• Badgers earn first win since Aug. 31 vs. Xavier
• Remeniuk, UW defense post second shutout of season
• Barlow scores second goal in first half for UW all year

Remeniuk (2-4-0) earned his second-career shutout, making three saves over the course of the game to help the Badgers earn the clean sheet.

Barlow gave the Badgers the lead midway through the first period, taking an assist from fellow St. Louis freshman Mark Segbers and finishing off the score in the box by chipping the ball past Green Bay goalkeeper Dani Alvarado.

For Segbers, it marked his second assist and team-leading 10th point of the season.

The quick score, coupled with a firm defensive effort the rest of the first half, helped UW take a lead into halftime. Bringing a lead into the locker room at the break is a luxury the Badgers had experienced only one other time before Tuesday's match.

In the second half, Remeniuk and the Badgers' defense made it count and preserved the win courtesy a shutout. It marked the second shutout this season for UW, and coincidentally, its first since defeating Xavier for the season's first win.

Redshirt freshman Zacc Roelke saw action in just his third game this season, as the defender from Madison played the full second half and helped the Badgers blank the Phoenix.

UW improved to 2-3-1 at home this season with the victory and also evened up the all-time series against Green Bay at 18-18-1.

Barlow finished with a career-high four shots on the night, including two shots on goal and the game's lone score.

Wisconsin returns to the road for a Big Ten test against No. 19 Michigan State on Saturday at 2 p.m. in East Lansing.
