MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's soccer team looks to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss against Northwestern on Wednesday night, as it shifts focus to the upcoming Big Ten tournament this Sunday with a quarterfinal game at home against Ohio State.
Seeded No. 2 in the tournament, the Badgers (11-5-2, 8-2-1 Big Ten) will host No. 7 seed Ohio State at the McClimon Complex this Sunday at noon. The Buckeyes (10-5-3, 5-4-2 Big Ten), coming off a 2-0 win over Michigan State on Wednesday night, look to dethrone the reigning Big Ten tournament champion Badgers.
Sunday's match will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Badgers holding a slight edge in the all-time series at 10-9-6. Wisconsin and Ohio State most recently met back in September, when the two teams played admirably to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
Junior forward Nichelle Prince leads the Buckeyes in points with 18 off six goals and six assists. Sophomore midfielder Nikki Walts isn't far behind with 15 points coming from five goals and five assists.
The midfield duo of junior Rose Lavelle and senior McKenna Meuer lead the Badgers' offensive attack. Lavelle boasts a team-leading 17 points and Meuer is second with 15.
The winner of Sunday's contest will advance to face the winner between No. 3 Rutgers and No. 6 Minnesota. The semifinal match will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, at the site of the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
