MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's tennis team dropped a close match to No. 39 Indiana on Friday, falling to the Hoosiers, 5-2, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.

"It was a tough match today," UW head coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "It felt like overall we competed well and Indiana just played a little better than us today. So hopefully we can be ready for the next match tonight and also be ready for Purdue on Sunday."

The Badgers (4-12) opened up the match with a competitive doubles battle, but fell just short and dropped the point to Indiana (12-7).

The No. 2 doubles team of junior Jakhongir Jalalov and junior Alexander Kokorev defeated IU's Chris Essick and Stefan Lugonjic, 8-3, but Indiana took the other two matches to go up 1-0. On doubles court 1, freshmen Josef Dodridge and  Jose Carranza dropped their match, 8-5, to Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk, while the No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Lamar Remy and Tomas Pitra fell to Sven Lalic and Raheel Manji, 8-4.

In singles action, Dodridge led the way for the Badgers at No. 1 singles with a big win over Monette. Dodridge dominated the first set, 6-0, then fell in his second set 6-4. He recorded a win for the Cardinal and White with a 7-6 tiebreaker victory in the third set.

Wisconsin's other win came from court 6, with sophomore John Zordani defeating Essick in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Jalalov dropped a close match on singles court 3, falling to Manji in a 1-0 tiebreaker in the third set after going 5-7 in set one and 6-2 in set two. On singles court 2, Kokorev was defeated by Bednarczyk in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
