Wisconsin Quotes
Head coach Kelly Sheffield

"We just played our game. I thought our passers did a really good job of first contact and we just went from there. Good match."

On Lauren Carlini's sudden ankle injury and if that scared him:
"Apparently she did something in practice this week, so that was kind of news to me and our training staff. She didn't look right, I called a timeout. We'll find out that it's something that's no big deal and just needs tape going forward. Have you ever seen the movie 'Animal House'? You know, the end of it when Kevin Bacon is there and mayhem is going all the way around him and he's there saying "Remain calm, all is well!"? That's not how it was like at all, I just wanted to get that our there. We have faith in Jordan (Robbins), but she was a little bit jittery getting in there. But Jordan's a really good setter, I see her everyday. Our hitters hit well off of her and that's why you have a bench."

On staying balanced through the match and looking toward tomorrow:
"Once we settled down a little bit and played our game, I thought we played great. I don't think there's a whole lot to be frustrated about. But you have a quick turnaround to get yourself ready for the next opponent. The coaches will do their homework tonight. We'll have film sessions tomorrow, and we'll try to get locked in on a really, really good Washington State team. They're very physical, one of the best blocking teams in the country, very good attacking, and a serving team that reminds me of us. I think there's a lot of similarities with how they serve and how we serve, so we're going to have to double down and get ready for that."

Freshman Molly Haggerty
On what she wanted to personally work on:
"I wanted to move my shots around because I know the team's we're going to face down the road are going to have good blocks and I think starting now with just hitting different shots is a good start."

On how they prepared their play coming into the match:
"On passing, just reading the server and not overthinking too much about passing. I think we did a great job right away coming in strong with passing and getting it to Lauren (Carlini) so we could get our middles involved and we did a great job focusing throughout the whole match."

On Lauren's injury and Jordan coming in:
"It was a little hectic and unexpected. But at the same time we knew Jordan and she's been working hard so we all had faith in her that she would do her job. There were a few points where things weren't going our way but we stuck with it and made sure we got back to our play. We didn't want to get too fancy or do too much with the ball, just wanted to play Badger volleyball. Eventually we got back to that."

Junior Lauyrn Gillis
(Piggybacking onto Molly's second quote)
"We're still trying to get better, but at the same time they did get a few blocks here and there so you can't just totally pass their size. You just have to do what you have to do and play your game and continue looking for shots."

Howard Quotes
Head coach Shaun Kupferberg

Opening statement:
"We're really proud of our team. We had a rough match today obviously but they battled and fought as hard as we could. We had a record-breaking season for our school and we continue to get better and that's all our goal is everyday. We stepped up and did some things that we wanted to today. We got a lot of pressure put on us in way that we aren't used to and we responded and we're excited for the next step forward and I'm proud of these guys."

On what he takes out of the match:
"It was a tough game for us. It was a tough draw. We weren't expecting to get such a high seed. Physically, we were outmatched. We talked about having to serve, serve receive well.

"First game was lopsided because we didn't serve receive well. We got aced three times, we don't get aced.  The rest of the match we didn't get aced at all and that second game got closer. Third game got out of hand because we made a bunch of hitting errors but in the grand scheme of things it's stuff we talk about every practice. It doesn't matter whether we're playing at our conference or playing Wisconsin, it's the same issues we need to do to win and we're growing as a program.

"Four years ago, five years ago, we won one game and then we kept growing, and growing, and growing. I mean, Kat (Broussard), she's a senior that came into to that. She was our first recruit ever, since I got there at least. But she was the first kid to sign on and it just grew from there and just kept growing.

"What we take from it is we're not close enough to a finished product yet. We need to learn how to win against big schools and we had a great match against Notre Dame this year. We couldn't quite pull it out in five sets and couldn't get over that hump. Tonight we made some mistakes at some opportune times and weren't able to handle that. We're not quite at that elite level yet and we have some room for growth but we're really excited about it. We're really excited going forward to do things next year that have never been done before and each class sets the standard to keep growing and we're just really excited to keep growing."

Junior Khaila Donaldson

"On whether (Lauren) Carlini leaving the floor pumped the team up:
"We weren't pumped at the time I think when she went out and we weren't up by a lot but we were up. It changed the game a little bit and so it was both good and bad. They pressed a little bit, our team pressed a little bit seeing that she was out of the game was like, 'Oh we can do stuff now.' It' news for us but the rest of Wisconsin's team is pretty much All-Americans as well so they're not going to fall over and do anything, but we were able to stretch out a lead there a little bit. We've got a better team than most people in the country understand because they don't get to see us very often, but we got a pretty big physical team that can do things but we were just down a match tonight but Carlini is probably the best player in the country and forever."

On what she'll take away from playing against the No. 3 seed in the country:
"I won't remember the whole night but as far as taking things away, most of what I took away was what we can do better for next season so we can win against the top-three seed, so that's what I took away from it.

On the second set pumping them up when they kept it close:
"Oh definitely, I'm going to take that to my grave that we were 19-25 against No. 3 Wisconsin."

Senior Katherine Broussard
On what she'll take away from playing against the No. 3 seed in the country:
"For me, it was a great experience to play against a top-three seeded team. I think we prepared for it all year round and it was exciting to see that we could really hang with the big dogs."

On the second set pumping them up when they kept it close:
"We wanted to take advantage of Carlini getting out of the game, so we were like, 'Oh come on, let's fight hard," and so I think it was fun to get the crowd rowdy a little bit."
