PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Wisconsin men's tennis team suffered a close dual match loss against highly-touted Pennsylvania University, 4-3, on Saturday morning.
"It was a very tough loss today," head coach
Danny Westerman said. "We definitely had our chances today but Penn deserved it in the end."
Despite losing the overall match, the Badgers won the doubles point early in the dual. Juniors
Josef Dodridge and
Chema Carranza captured a 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles position. Also getting a win at the No. 2 spot was junior captain
Lamar Remy and freshman
Chase Colton, 6-3, over Marshall Sharp and Nicolas Podesta. The duo is 4-0 together this spring.
Montequinto, Spain native, Carranza also picked up a win in the singles bracket for the Badgers. The junior earned a two-set win over Matt Nardella, 6-3, 7-6.
Freshman
Daniel Soyfer continued his impressive marks, moving to 4-0 in his first collegiate season. Soyfer earned a two-set singles win, beating Kaden Funk 6-3, 6-2.
Remy and Colton fell for the first time in the spring season in singles, losing 6-4, 6-4 and 7-6, 6-4, respectively. Both Badgers move to 3-1 on the season.
The Badgers have a quick turnaround from today's match and are back in action Sunday morning at 9 a.m. when they play Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.
"The best thing for us is to get out on the court tomorrow, learn from today and bounce back," Westerman finished.
