No blues today: Wisconsin thumps Middle Tennessee at home

Badgers beat Blue Raiders, 7-0, to continue perfect start

MADISON, Wis. – After jumping out to a 2-0 start last weekend, the Badger men's tennis team picked up right where they left off. The Badgers earned a 7-0 win over Middle Tennessee State on Friday night at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

"I thought the guys played fantastic today," assistant coach Scoville Jenkins said. "They competed so well and stayed tough the whole time. That's all you can ask for as a coach, for your team to go out and compete. It was great to see."

Junior Lamar Remy led the Badgers as a captain should. The Roslyn, New York native put on a show at the #2 singles position and beat Tom Moonen, 6-3, 6-3. Another junior, Chema Carranza, finished moments after Remy with a score of 6-4, 6-3 over Middle Tennessee's Miguel Negre Fernandez.

At the No. 1 singles spot, junior Josef Dodridge willed himself to a hard-fought two-set win over Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore, 6-4, 7-5.

Freshman Daniel Soyfer had another big weekend for the Badgers, this time sealing the team victory for Wisconsin with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Nicolas Buitrago Machado.

Sophomore Osgar O'Hoisin went the distance with a three-set win against Luis Morillo Diaz, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

Freshman Chase Colton recorded the last match of the day for the Badgers and it was a thriller. After falling behind 5-0 in the first set, the freshman rallied to a three-set win, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

"Chase fought so well for feeling under the weather," Jenkins continued. "For him to play both singles and doubles today just shows how tough he is as a player and how enjoyable he is to coach."

In doubles, Remy and Colton jumped Wisconsin out to an early lead with a 6-3 win over Gian Issa and Miguel Negre Fernandez. Senior John Zordani and O'Hoisin were the second duo to finish, beating Max Rauch and Nicolas Buitrago Machado, 6-4.

The Badgers are back in action on the road when they play the Pennsylvania on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Philadelphia.

"We just need to compete hard," captain Lamar Remy said. "We're going to have another great week of practice and as long as we show up ready to play against next week, it'll be a great stepping-stone into conference play."
