SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Wisconsin (11-2, 2-0) just keeps on winning. The Badgers traveled west for a dual match against San Diego (8-6, 1-0) on Tuesday afternoon at the Hogan Tennis Center and left with a 5-2 victory. No. 31 Wisconsin has now won five straight matches.
"Couldn't be more pleased with the fight in our guys," head coach
Danny Westerman said. "To get the first point from doubles after being down breaks at the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots was big. We came outdoors with only a handful of practices and beat a very good San Diego team. It shows the toughness in our guys."Â
UW earned the first point of the dual in doubles play, something they have done in every match this season. The Badgers moved to an undefeated 13-0 on the year in team doubles play.Â
After juniors
Josef Dodridge and
Chema Carranza surrendered the first match of the day at the No. 1 spot, senior
John Zordani and sophomore
Osgar O'Hoisin tied the score at 1-1 with a 6-4 win over Pratt Kpong and Guus Koevermans at the No. 3 position. O'Hoisin and Zordani are now 10-2 in the dual season.
It was none other than junior
Lamar Remy and freshman
Chase Colton that sealed the doubles win for Wisconsin. Earning their 11th win of the season, the No. 2 tandem beat Gui Osorio and Joel Gamerov, 7-5 in a pressure situation.
O'Hoisin was the first Badger to punch the clock. Playing No. 4 singles, the sophomore beat San Diego's Joel Gamerov in two sets, 6-1, 6-3, to improve his winning streak to four matches. O'Hoisin boasts a 9-4 record in the dual season.Â
The lone senior, Zordani, played in his third match of the dual season for the Cardinal and White and earned a two-set win over Garrett Kurtz, 6-3, 6-4. Zordani remains unbeaten in the three matches in the new year.Â
After Remy dropped a back-and-forth match at the No. 1 spot to No. 70 ranked Fillip Vittek, 7-6, 6-2, Colton swiftly picked up his doubles partner with a win at the No. 5 spot. The freshman earned a two-set win over Koevermans, 6-4, 7-5, to bounce back from a tight loss in last week's match against Minnesota. Colton holds a 7-5 record this spring in his first campaign with the Badgers.
Wisconsin is back in action on Sunday when they continue Big Ten play at home against Nebraska. The match will start at 11:30 a.m. (CT) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
"I'm very excited for our guys to play our next match at home against Nebraska."
