MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A talented Wisconsin foursome traveled east for the 42nd-annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic, but their stay was brief. Senior
Lamar Remy was the only Badger to win a singles match, but fell in the round of 16.
Singles: Remy started the day by toppling Marquette's Luis Heredia, 7-6, 6-4. However, the captain faced a tough loss in the second round of the Classic's bracket to Old Dominion's Aziz Kijametovic, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
Sophomore
Chase Colton bounced back after a loss earlier today to beat Marquette's Luke Smrek, 6-1, 6-3 in a backdraw match.
Doubles: Last year, Colton paired with
Chema Carranza to win the doubles championship at the MTC. In 2017, he wasn't as fortunate. Teaming with Remy, the duo advanced a round with a win over an Arkansas pair, 8-3, before hitting a roadblock. The duo fell to a Marquette pair of Luke Smrek and Greg Anderson, 8-5.
Up Next: Wisconsin's next fall challenge lies in the ITA All-Americans tournament held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tournament will start next Saturday and run through the week.
Scoville's Scope
"It was a hot and humid day today. The guys fought until the very end. Lamar lost a tough 7-6 in the third set but played his heart out. I couldn't be prouder of him. Chase bounced back strong after his first match. Martim (Vilela) and Robert (Krill) showed a lot of toughness, especially for this tournament being their second collegiate tournament. "
