SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Wisconsin swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season on a high note, putting up a number of stellar performances Saturday at the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational.
Â
The competition offered unique challenges to the Badgers, including an early morning start on Saturday and facing three ranked opponents, but they were up to the task.
Â
"I'm very proud of our team after this meet," UW head coach
Whitney Hite said. "This meet is a great indicator of where we are. We went through all of the events in a very short period of time, which puts a lot of stress on your team."
Â
As she has done all season,
Beata Nelson stood out. The sophomore was dominant in the women's 200-yard backstroke, winning the event with a time of 1 minute, 54.33 seconds.
Â
"That 200 back was really good. Beata has proven herself as someone our team can rely on," Hite said. "Despite the early start this morning, she was ready to go out and make an impact for her team."
Â
Senior
Ryan Stack followed Friday's performance with a fourth-place finish in the men's 100 freestyle (44.78).
Â
"Ryan had a really good meet, especially last night," Hite said. "He's been really consistent all year. He's worked hard all year, and he's primed to have a great championship season. I'm very excited for him."Â
Â
The Badgers will now enter the two-week period before the Big Ten Championships, giving the athletes some time to rest before the intensity makes another jump.
Â
"We need to believe in what we've been doing all year, we need to trust the process," Hite said. "We've put in a lot of hard work, we've faced some adversity, but we just need to stay focused and know that the fast times are coming."
