STILLWATER, Okla. – Wisconsin traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the ITA Kick-Off in hopes of reaching the ITA Indoor National Championship. The Badgers' hopes were dashed with a 4-1 loss to 13th-ranked Mississippi State.
Wisconsin stole the doubles point early on to take a 1-0 lead in the dual. The No. 9-ranked pair of seniors,
Chema Carranza and
Josef Dodridge knocked off No. 49 Niclas Bruan and Trevor Foshey, 6-2. Unranked duo junior
Osgar O'Hoisin and sophomore
Daniel Soyfer discarded No. 41 Florian Broska and Giovanni Oradini, 6-3.
Singles was a different story. The Badgers struggled against a Mississippi State roster that boasts four ranked players in its starting lineup.
Soyfer was leading his match at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-6, before MSU clinched and his matched was ended prematurely. On court No. 3, Dodridge was also looking strong, taking the second set off No. 54 Strahinja Rakic, before going unfinished with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 2-2.
Up Next: Wisconsin will face the loser of No. 14 Oklahoma State and Kentucky on Saturday. The consolation match will be played at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. depending upon the outcome.
