MADISON, Wis. – Three up, three down. The Wisconsin women's tennis team tallied its third win in three tries this weekend, handling Colorado State, 6-1, on Saturday in the 2018 home opener.
The Badgers' 3-0 mark is the team's best start to a season since opening with a 3-0 record in 2014.
UW got things going early by grabbing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles spot. Playing in the No. 2 spot, senior
Kelsey Grambeau and freshman
Lexi Keberle finished first and defeated Riley Reeves and Emily Luetschwager, 6-1.
Securing the point for Wisconsin was the pair of senior
Sara Castellano and sophomore
Melissa Pick beating the Colorado duo of Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo, 6-4.
Wisconsin then took five of six singles matches on Saturday with sophomore
Christina Zordani, Castellano and Keberle winning the first three matches and securing the victory. Every victory was decided in two sets other than Grambeau who was defeated in three, 5-7, 6-4, 0-1 (5).
Zordani handled Solene Crawley in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-0, while Keberle took care of Palermo, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot.
Playing No. 3 for Wisconsin, Castellano defeated Luetschwager, 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore
Michelle Linden finished fourth in the No. 5 spot, defeating Emma Corwin, 6-3, 6-3.
Pick was next in line, defeating Emily Kolbow in the No. 4 slot, 6-4, 6-2.
Wisconsin's No. 3 doubles team of Linden and Zordani was defeated by Kolbow and Corwin, 6-2.

"I think that we were in control of the things we could control: attitude, energy and effort. I think we did a nice job of competing throughout the entire match."
On what stuck out:
"I think we were pretty much business today and did what they had to do."
On the weekend sweep:
"It's just good to get a couple matches under our belt and hopefully we can build momentum moving forward."
