MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin (5-5, 0-1 B1G) drew the short stick against Minnesota (4-3, 1-0 B1G) on Saturday morning, losing the Big Ten opener, 5-2.
The Badgers lost the doubles point for only the second time this season, giving Minnesota a boost heading into the singles category.
The Gophers clinched the match by claiming the first four points before the Badgers got on the board. The Badgers would fight back for two wins courtesy of sophomore Daniel Soyfer and
Josef Dodridge.
Soyfer continued his undefeated spring season by outlasting Minnesota's Eli Ogilvy in a thrilling three-set affair, 6-7, 7-6, 10-2.
Doridge's win came over No. 34 ranked Stefan Milicevic, 7-6, 6-1, moving to 4-3 this spring.
Westerman's Wing: "Two very even teams battled today. Minnesota was the more deserving team. Our guys played with a ton of emotion and it really felt like a rivalry Big Ten match. I was proud of our guys' togetherness. We took some steps this week. We will keep working and growing together."
Up Next: Wisconsin is back in action next week at Nielsen Stadium when they take on Pennsylvania on Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. (CT).
